This natural park derives its name from the great Ottoman Sultan Mohammed the Conqueror (Fatih Sultan Mehmet), and it covers an area of 112 hectars. The park is preferred throughout the year due to the fact that it is close to the city center. The park has been visited by a plenty of during the whole year especially in Spring and Autumn.
THE ACTIVITIES THAT CAN BE DONE WITHIN THE PARK AREA
In this park area, there is a rural restaurant, a buffet, areas for daily use, picnic units, a lagoon, paths for trekking and taking a walk, play ground for children, The natural park area attracts one’s attention with its convenient structure for natural activities and tekking and walking in the nature. It has areas convenient for daily use. This natural park also has a fountain within its area. The park area is also convenient for camping and Orienteering (Finding one’s direction). You can spend a nice and peaceful day within the park with your whole family.
FLORA
This area which is within the Fatih Forest is full of trees which are very close to each others. The tree sorts are made up of coniferous trees and trees with gren leaves. The forest is a sort of middle aged forest. The sorts of trees contained within the park area which are determined by way of observation and examination that are generally made up of Kasnak Oak(Quercus vulcanica), Turkey Oak (Quercuscerris), Alders (Carpinus betulus), Anatolian chestnus (Castaneasativa), Oriental Planes (Platanus orientalis), Tall Ash Tree(Fraxinus excelsior), Bullace grapes(Prunus spinosa), Black Pines (Pinus nigra), Blackberries (Rubus spp.), Broad-leaved common myrtles (Ruscus hypoglossum), Shrubberies (Erica arborea), Japanese daphne (Aucuba japonica), Bay leaf quelder roses (Viburnum tinus), Pitosporrum (Pittosporum tobira), Hederas (Hederahelix)
FAUNA
The fauna in the fields is made up of such mammalians as Deers (Capreolus capreolus) Red Squirrels (Sciurus vulgaris), Feral Pigs (Sus scrofa Linnaeus), Jackals (Canis aureus Linnaeus), Foxes (Vulpes vulpes), Rabbits (Lepus europaeus), Hedgehogs (Erinaceus concolor), Moles (Talpa europaea Linnaeus), Sorts of Martens(Martes sp.). In addition to those mammalians there are also such bird kinds as European swifts (Apus apus), Harrier eagles (Circaetus gallicus), Hawks (Accipiter nisus), Falcons (Buteo buteo), Blackbirds (Turdus merula), Goldfinches (Carduelis Carduelis), Chaffinches (Fringilla coelebs), Titmouses (Carduelis spinus), Magpies(Pica pica), Sparrows(Passer domesticus), Grayjays (Garrulus glandarius), Seagulls (Larus cachinnans). There are also creepers such as Turtles (Testudo graeca), and Istanbul Lizards (Podarcis sicula).
HOW TO ACCESS
It is on the forest way to Bahcekoy which comes from Maslak and the distance is about 2-3 kilometers. And the park is on the left hand side of the road. You can also go to the park on the minibuses and buses that start in or go through Sariyer, Tarabya, and Bahcekoy. At the same time you can use the underground (subway) between Yenikapi and Haciosman. And when you arrive at Haciosman you can take a taxi to get to the park.
